The Doll Sisters
Hailing from the rolling foothills of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, The Doll Sisters are a fiery Celtic Americana duo who weave haunting harmonies and stellar songwriting together to create an unforgettable experience every time they perform. As skillful multi-instrumentalists on guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin and bodhrán, Jenna Leigh Doll & Shelby Doll tirelessly strive to push the boundaries of what it means to be a female musician. Fusing together influences from their rich Irish and Scottish heritage, as well as elements from roots and rock, they have created a signature sound that is uniquely their own and has drawn them comparisons ranging from Alison Krauss to The Civil Wars to Heart.
Their sophomore record, “Off the Edge of the Earth”, is a milestone project that showcases the duo’s ever-expanding multi-dimensionalism as both artists and songwriters, and was recorded at OCL Studios near Calgary, AB. It was released on October 4th, 2014.
The Doll Sisters are past Canadian Folk Music Award nominees, and they were recently nominated for the ACMA’s Duo/Group of the Year award in 2013. They have had the honour of sharing stages with the likes of Cindy Church, The Good Lovelies, Clayton Bellamy and Lisa Brokup, to name a few. Their resumé includes multiple folk festivals, such as the Edmonton Folk Fest and the Canmore Folk Fest, as well as several folk clubs, concerts and house shows across Alberta, BC, and Ontario. In February 2014, they were selected to be a part of a delegation of Alberta musicians who traveled to the Folk Alliance Conference in Kansas City, Missouri as representatives of the province. Other recent highlights include performing as the pre-show for Rick Mercer of the Mercer Report at the Keyano Theatre in Fort McMurray, AB, as well as for Celtic Crossroads at the Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary, AB. In June 2014, they were commissioned to write a song for the annual Emerald Foundation Awards Ceremony, which recognizes environmental excellence in Alberta. The original song they composed, entitled “River of the Raven”, was performed by them and broadcast live from the Martha Cohen Theatre in Calgary during the ceremony.
